01: Robin Beyond

I was originally going to draw Maxine or "10" as Robin but once I got done and saw her hair I knew I had to go with a different story. Read on, little ones.

The screen flickered and shut off, leaving her alone in a room full of memories and mementos of a life she never knew her father had. The fiery red motorcycle that stood solitary on it's once revolving platform was nothing like the one he had left for her in the will, nor was it like anything she had seen in any magazine or TV show she could remember. The tools that adorned the east wall and sat carefully laid out on the bird shaped table in front of it were nothing like the craftsman's tools which she had seen him use when he was alive nor were they recognizable as any tools that she knew of. The suit that stood illuminated in a faint red light in it's glass case was unlike any uniform she had seen befo... wait. That wasn't true. On the right breast was an insignia of the letter "R", yellow against a black circle. She had seen it before, many times, in magazines and history books and newspaper articles about her city: Gotham City. It was the same insignia that he wore back then. Her father. Richard Grayson.
He has called this place the Robin's nest in the pre-taped video recording that greeted her when she found the entrance to this sanctuary within the estate that he had left for her. It was one of the few things that she recalled from the video. It had all been too much: this revelation and the history that went with it. maybe if she played the video again it wouldn't feel so alien to her. Maybe she had misheard the whole this and this time the words her father spoke to her would make perfect, logical, sane sense.
But as she stepped forward the large screen on the north wall amidst the machines and buttons and flashing lights sprung to life again but this time not with the image of her father but with a montage of blue prints for the equipment around her and shots newspaper articles and news stories from the past recalling the many, many times the city had be saved only through the actions of a few caped heroes. The last image to flash on the screen was that of The Batman and then, as the image lingered, her father's voice spoke again:
"That man will not rest. Not while there is still a single crime being committed in this city. For this reason I know The Batman will return to Gotham and, whether it be an old fool or a new hope beneath that iconic bat symbol... he will need help. And if you're seeing this video feed and I am not beside you to have explained this all already... well then," he paused and the image faded to that of her father's face before he spoke again a single phrase. "...He will need your help."
