(When I first started disliking Twilight people would say "you can't hate it if you haven't actually read it yourself" so I read the first book. What resulted from that and researching what happens in the other books is that now I don't dislike it. I hate it. I want to have every copy rounded up and burned. I am not kidding)
I don't care how into him you are. If before you met your boyfriend he used to break into your father's house to watch you sleep (he was doing it before she ever spoke to him. One of the first times they had a real conversation is when he told her he already knew where the spare key to her house is) there is no way ANYONE including your girlfriends would say "Oh wow, that's romantic." If he told you that he didn't like your friends and so you couldn't see them anymore , you could only work or go to school where he says you can and if you dared try to go somewhere else he would forge paperwork sending you where HE wanted and threatened to murder hundreds of people if you left him NO ONE would say "Aww. Romance." If you told me that if he ever breaks up with you then you'd spend FOUR MONTHS not getting out of bed and then throw yourself off a cliff I would get you therapy not say "Aww, romantic." Don't ever EVER try to convince me that anything in Twilight is good. EVER. I have a little sister. My best friends and the people I love most in the world are women. I spend more time than most people spend watching TV getting creepers, stalkers and controlling a-holes out of their lives. Twilight is a book where a girl with serious Stockholm Syndrome (I mean suicidal serious) is in love with the stalker that EVERYONE tells her to stay away from including him and then when she refuses he becomes even more of a controlling a-hole. The only thing he hasn't done is physically hit her and since he spends most of the story warning her that he WANTS to hurt her and she should stay away... you know what? no. Forget it. I can't believe I need to explain this.
I don't care that he sparkles like diamonds or that it's a romance or that he's the worst Vampire in the world. I just can't understand why women all around the world love a book where the female lead is the most weak, annoying, dependent on a man and OBVIOUSLY mentally ill heroine I have ever seen.WHY are there no women's groups trying to get this book banned?? Is controlling and mental abuse the new romance? I think not.
The weirdest thing though? As the book goes on all the characters who aren't Edward/Bella/Jacob completely agree with me. His FAMILY tells her that making plans to stay with him forever is a terrible idea because they have made similar decisions and it turned out terribly. I am confounded... because I can't understand how a book that is written like, and compares itself to a TRAGEDY ends with everyone getting married and living happily ever after. You do know that's what Romeo and Juliet is, right? It isn't a love story, it's a Tragedy. Honestly. That's it's genre. If feel like Twilight is Romeo and Juliet written by someone who doesn't understand that Romeo and Juliet was about bad decision making and not about love.
The End.
