TCAF 2012

So... pretty much the best show ever. I went, I saw, I bought sooooooooooooo many books.

Where's the proof, you say? Here you go.

For a thing I never heard of til late last year it was crazy packed. Maybe partly due to the fact that it's COMPLETELY FREE ADMISSION. Awesome.

So one of the great things at this year's show was the comics vs. video games exhibit. A wonderful exhibit  showcasing what can be done when comic artists come together with technology and video games.

The Yawhg. So good. Fun and funny. Choose options - places to go and what actions you want to take- as the days whittle down til the Yawhg arrives to destroy the town.

Yes.

Even more yes.

Basically the whole game revolves around jumping on clouds or others heads while collecting coins. You lose all the coins you've gathered if you fall. Super basic premise. Super fun.

Lookit these books... and Ebooks!!

"Meanwhile" is a wicked "choose your own adventure" style  comic on the iPad or tablet.

Some Becky Cloonan "Black Church" artwork. Basically you play either a viking or a member of the black church and the aim of the game is to either bring the baby anti christ home by getting it to your ship (if you're a viking) or kill it by tossing it in the fires (if you're from the church). Sound messed up? What's really messed up is how fun and cutesy it is. Check out the video if you don't believe me.

Victorian style fighting game? Yes, please.
And because my pictures suck... here's a link to the fabulous Magic Pony Blog with a better breakdown: Comics vs Games @ Magic Pony Blog

Upstairs is the webcomic room... or at least that's what I call it. Almost an entire floor devoted purely to webcomic artists or those whose notoriety comes from the web. Tyson Hesse, Becky Cloonan, Christina Strain and soooo many more.

Bothering Becky Cloonan before buying a copy of her new comic The Mire and gushing all over her.
Because she's totally awesome you guys. TOTALLY.

First time at the show, Diana Nock was super nice. Her colourful books drew me in and took me hostage until I agreed to buy one. I am a sucker for robots.

Tyson Hesse of Boxer Hockey fame making the magic happen all over the copy of volume 2 that I purchased.

Not everything was comics, though. Some of it was just freaking AMAZING artwork.

Joe Bluhm everybody. Super nice. Super talented.

Whaaaa?

Whaaaaaaaaaaa?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

I don't usually go to panels but there were so many instructional and helpful panels on Sunday that I decided to take in a bunch of them.

Jeff Smith of Bone and (his new series) RASL decided to school us on how to ink. Like seriously school. Gave us the history of inking and everything. (well it only took like a minutes to explain where inking came from, but still... BOSS)

To end off my poor documentation of this amazing show is a picture of my lunch on the first day. I went across the street to Pizziolo determined to just get something quick and SMALL to eat. I saw their deal for one slice of pizza and a canned drink for about $4. So I got it. And they gave me this.

They even cut it in half JUST IN CASE you couldn't tell that their "1 slice" was actually two.

And now.... LINKS!!

Chizine Publications (they didn't have a presence at the show, but the ever amazing Samantha let me sleep on her couch for the show and when she wasn't around I marvelled at all the Chizine books on her shelves- many of which she worked on herself in some capacity)
